Cumulative CO2 emissions – 337 billion tonnes

Cumulative human carbon dioxide emissions is about 337 billion tonnes (gigatonnes) according to the US Govt. CDIAC. Almost all of since WW2.

Now, the total mass of atmospheric carbon dioxide is 3.16×1015 kg (about 3,000 gigatonnes)

That is – humans have added a total of 337 gigatonnes to the over 3,000 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere.

You can also see, like in the annual emissions graph (sidebar), the jump in emissions starts at WW2
