Both use surface thermometer-measured temperature records only and a great deal of “adjustment” and “correction” is going on. –

“An example of this is the rapid change in the kinds of measurements we see in the digital archives around the Second World War,” explained Peter Stott, head of climate monitoring and attribution at the Met Office.

“Research has shown readings from buckets were generally cooler so when the database changes from one source to another, you see artificial jumps in the temperature.

“We have quantified these effects and corrected them, providing a clearer view of the evolution of global temperatures.” (it was also necessary to “correct” the FACT that the ARGO Float satellite data shows ZERO warming of the oceans)

The two following articles disabuse us of what seems to be the source of this latest alarmist claim which flies in the face of what we are all personally observing – a cooling trend.

New HadCRUT temperature record makes 2010 hotter than 1998

There are four little indisputable facts about this non-debate –

ONE – Human carbon dioxide emissions before 1950 were trivial and have risen almost exponentially since then.

TWO – Satellites have accurately measured the temperature of the whole globe, land and ocean, for most of that exponential rise in human carbon dioxide output (since 1979).

THREE – The temperature of the earth has not dramatically risen along with the carbon dioxide levels, but rather followed the very slow long term trend until about 10 years ago when it levelled out.

FOUR – The warming trend since human emissions dramatically took off post WW2 is less than 0.2 degrees which is not outside the data error range (i.e. less than trivial)
